    Hello my name is Marcus and i just started working at a school as IT technician who uses Symantec ghostcast and i must admit im fairly new to it and have only used it a few times.
    My problem is with the new laptops we are using (Lenovo L440).

    For the older laptops (Lenovo L430, Lenovo L420) there have been boot images already made before i started working here and they seem to be working fine but not for the L440.

    i use PC DOS and not WinPE since PC DOS were already setup, and do it over the network.

    The initial problem was that it did not even get to the Ghost cast menu, i solved this by going in to the autoexec.bat and adding "ghost.exe"  the original file only had "ngctdos.exe"

    After that i got: Cannot create a file preservation metadata file at path "."
    I went back in to the autoexec.bat and poked around a bit, and solved the issue by removing "CD \GHOST" and chaged "ghost.exe" to "\ghost\ghost.exe" to make it run.

    Now i get to my current problem, i get as far as i can type in Session name and select what disk i want to create image from and just as it starts so tranfering files and it just stops at "Current file: 88 chs_boot.ttf" or sometimes at "Current file: 91 kor_boot.ttf" and gives me the following error message:

    Error: could not allocate page table memory
    General failure reading Drive A
    Insert disk with \COMMAND.COM in driva A

    Press any key to continue. . .

    i've tried to change location of ghost.exe to the root folder and change that in autoexec.bat to match up but that just gave me more problems so right now im stuck with that error message, if there is anyone who could help i will be very greatful!

    We are looking to stop vbs scripts which are run from the Windows Temp folder.  Altiris is running scripts from the temp folder.  Is there a setting that can be changed to run the scripts from a different folder?

    I have removed them by deleting them from the console; however they still exist on the server itself when doing a pxe boot.

    What type of cleanup do I need to do so that I don't have old pxe configurations showing up and just the current ones I want?

    Our server farm is not given access to the Internet.  Obviously, the SMP needs access to the Internet for updates for itself and to pull down patches from Symantec.  Where are these patches stored so that we can open up the server to that specifically and not have it available to the whole internet?  I have looked through the forums and cannot find anything about it.  I also need to know where the updates are kept as this will be a new installation and SIM will need access to wherever to get the updates it needs.

    Hello,

    I know I had this working at one point but e moved away from GSS to Acronis because there was no new development happening.  Then I recently saw GSS had Window 8 support.  It works way better than Acronis so I'm back.

    What I can't remember is how I was creating images with Sysprep.  When I try to sysprep the system using a Get Image task, I get an itneractive services message on the client that I'm hoping to image and then nothing happens.

    I'm hoping that something has changed since then and there's a way to do it.  Can someone help me out?

    1. NS console -> Settings -> Notification Server -> Resource Membership Update >  Run Policy update schedule  > Run Complete update schedule
    2. open SMA settings >  Update
    3. Restart Service Altiris Object Host Service
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Workaround#3 --> The problem still occurred.
    1)  Manual install TaskServer \\%Address of your SMP Server%\NSCap\bin\Win64\X64\Client Task Management\Server Package\Task ServerSetup_xxx.exe
    2) Verify Service Altiris Object Host Service" and "Altiris Client Task Data Loader" 
    3) VerifyTask Status 
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Workaround#4 --> The problem still occurred.
    1) Reinstall SMA and Re-Add Task Service 

    Please help me to solve it.

    Our server farm has very limited access to the internet.  I need to know where SIM gets it product updates from to allow site access to only that location.  I have looked through the forums and the only thing I found was solutionsam.com for what looks like NS6.  Is there a new site or location for NS 7.5?simerror.jpg

    I am running Notification Server 6.0.6074 (SP3 + R13) and up until we upgraded our domain controllers from windows server 2003 to server 2008, everything was working. I have two active rules to import the computer and User resources from our domain name. After the server team changed the Global catalog and the FSMO to a windows 2008 server, nothing is being imported.

    The Altiris log Viewer has about 15 of the errors below during the schduled import time:

    "10/9/2014 2:10:29 AM","An error occurred while running ResourceMergeMergeOptionByUsernameDomain. Error in the application.","Altiris.AssetControl.Settings.DuplicateUserMerge.ExecuteDuplicateUserMerge","aexsvc.exe","4628"
     

    Now, we still have one domain controller that is running Windows Server 2003. If I change the name of the resource where it is pulling the data from the domain name, to the windows server 2003 DC, everything is imported. However, we cannot keep this 2003 server forever.

    Should Altiris be able to import this data from a 2008 domain? Under resource selection it shows the domain type as only Windows 2000/2003. I guess the new 7.0 version includes 2008.

    What can be done, if anything, to get the import to work besides upgrading to NS 7? I found this hotfix, but I believe this fix is already included in the R13 update. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=DOC1963

    From the Internet Explorer Admin Kit for IE9, I created 32/64-bit builds to use for deployment via Software Management 7.1.  If I manually run them, they apply the IE settings as expected from the IEAK but this does not happen when deploying via Altiris.  I've tried changing from using a System Account to a specific (domain admin) account but get the same results.  This same process worked just fine with IE 7/8 so wondering if anyone else has seen this behavior before when trying to push IE9 to Win7?  Thanks in advance!

    Traditionally, we use WSUS to patch all of our Windows systems, including our servers.  For our client endpoints we have the systems configured to do the installs without prompting the users.  On the windows servers, we have it configured to automatically download the software updates but to not perform the installs.  This allows the server administrators to patch the systems on their schedule as long as it gets done by a certain time. 

     In the Symantec Management Console > Settings > All Settings > Agents/Plug-ins > Software > Patch Mgmt > Windows, I created two seperate policies, one for clients, and one for servers.  I am trying to configure our server policy to match our current group policy as close as possible.  Is there a way to configure the agents on our servers to download the update policies but to not install them until they are run by a server admin?  In our experience, if you let a server sit with an update installed but a reboot pending the CPU tends to run away and we dont want that to happen.  Thank you.
