    Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I cloned my production Altiris SMP server, site server, and copied my database into a different domain for the purpose of setting up a more robust test environment.  My issue is that I cannot get to the console in the test domain.  Has anyone ever attempted this before?

I used the AeXConfig.exe application utility to change the App Identity account and password, but even when I am logged on to the server, I cannot access the the console...even locally from the SMP server itself.

    AeXConfig.exe /svcid user:{domain\user} password:{password}

    Access Denied

You currently do not have sufficient network access rights to the Notification Server console.

Please Contact your local area network administrator for further assistance.

Please help me get this resolved as I need to get this test server running so we can test the upgrade to 7.5  prior to implementing in our production environment.

Using WISE, I have created a MSI for Windows 7 32bits.I have custom actions that are calling binaries (complied to support 32bits). What is the best practice to manage the custom actions in my current MSI to support 64-bits also (assuming compliing the binary files to support 64-bit). is there a condition for 64-bit or 32-bit I can use for each CA, or is there a better way....

  • 08/07/14--11:27: Remove from a task ..
  • Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Inside DS 7.5 there is a task available called "Add to Filter". By attaching this to a Server side script I can add machines to a specific filter based on a computer list provided by the SQL query.

What I am looking for is the exact opposite of what it offered, I want to remove a machine from a specific filter when the query results come back a "Remove from Filter". Is this even possible ? I've not been successful in pulling any information using Chevron to see the guts behind the "Add to Filter" task.

    Any help anyone ?

ok so in NS6 we had software set to a manual install and could be found double clicking the Altiris Agent. It was set this way when I started working here. We have since gone to NS7.1 and looking towards 7.5 once SSR is supported. With that I can do what we have been and make the software available via the Altiris Agent but it has side effects... so here goes... lets explain..

we image a machine (win7 unattended) where a tech boots off of a thumb drive and installs from network - not my choice but it works...

it installs Altiris as one of the last things it does. We have our Delta Filter update set to 1hr. Techs get MOST of their software from the Altiris Agent and are constantly complaining that McAfee or something isnt available. So I go update filters/policies myself but this is inefficient. So filters update server side 1h and the clients checkin every 4hrs.

I was going to look at using the software portal but we need to be able to report against software installs for audits and the sort so i do not think Software Portal will work for us.

How are you all doing this?

We have 9 sites with local site techs. I am the only Altiris Admin and all others are contractors that run reports. That is pretty much it...

I am getting the following error in my NS Server logs

    Subnet in multiple sites
Subnet is resource associated with more then one site. Subnet:323c481b-df6a-4587-96fd-c5c03711d593 First Site bc120401-4478-49ff-8a15-11c4b05a4f6a, Additional Site: e3e6042b-2cf7-482e-aa48-f6434edeb258
       [Altiris.NS.Exceptions.AeXException @ Altiris.Resource]
       at Altiris.Resource.StandardResources.SiteSubnetRelationCache.LoadSiteSubnets(Object sender, LoadEventArgs`1 args)

The GUID's refer to a subnet/mask and the 2 sites it says it is in.   When I check both of the sites I only see the subnet in 1 of them.  I am assuming somewhere it still has a reference to the subnet in the one site that is should not be, but it's not showing in the GUI anywhere.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get this error stopped?

Does Altiris has the ability create visual maps/diagrams of servers/network devices/etc of what it has discovered or is being Managed?

If not is there a 3rd Party software tool that can use the Altiris data and provide that visual map?

We're running 7.5 and I have noticed that we have policies created in Patch Management that reflect various M$ updates. However, when I go to a machine that shows no software updates,In Altiris, I can run Windows Updates against that machine, and it'll come up with updates that are reflected in those policies.

Q: Why would windows update think a patch needs to be applied when Altiris doesn't?

I am building a custom Personality Capture Template (.pbt) file and in this at a stage where to store the Personality Package file, I enter C:\PCT_Image with a view that created personality package files will be stored at mentioned location. However, it is still routing the package file to be stored on server.

Note: Target is to ensure that a package file that is created should be stored locally.

Kindly advise on what is being missed here.

    Hello Experts,

I am looking for some assistance with an issue i am having creating a Ghost Multicard template boot disk.  Several of the machines running in my current environment are Optiplex 3020s using the realtek NIC.  I have downloaded the drivers off of Dells website as well as realteks website and both result in an error when i create a boot disk using those drivers.  The error i get is

Ethernet Adaoter driver (V1.35) [2010/12/14] installation failed

    Serious internal error !

Not sure what causing this issue.  So i tried older drivers that came with boot wizard and they worked.  However, when i add it to multicard template it cant load/find the drivers.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • 08/08/14--11:45: Software Portal - Windows 7
  • Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hi all, I am experiencing an issue deploying the Software Portal to Windows 7 machines, here is the scenario:

We disable the agent in the tray by default, and we are looking to start using Software Portal, so I am looking into the best way to "deploy" it.

I turned on the "Software Portal Plug-in Policy" policy, and targetted my lab, which consists of windows xp and windows 7 machines (to mimic our environment).

Once the agents got the policy, I saw the links (shortcuts) on the desktop and in the start menu, as I specified in the policy settings. However, when I launch the shortcut on windows 7 machines, nothing happens (the browser doesn't launch), while on my winxp machines, it launches correctly. So then I checked the targets in the shortcuts, and they are different:

    Windows XP: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Altiris\ALTIRI~1\Agents\SOFTWA~2\SOFTWA~1.DLL,ShowSoftwarePortal

    Windows 7: C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Software Management Solution Plugin\SoftwareManagementSolution_Agent.dll,ShowSoftwarePortal

I noticed that this causes the Windows 7 path to have spaces in it, which usually requires quotes. I added the quotes and it worked. I cannot be the only one experiencing this, so it might be something that Symantec should look into? Or is it just me? Anyone?

What would be the best way to control the number of clients downloading a package to install that are part of a Managed Software Delivery Policy? Should I adjust the multicast settings in Targeted Agent Settings? More specifically I'd like control the number of simulatenous downloads, if that is possible. In this particular instances these clients would be pulling from a single site server and the clients are mostly at home users. So a Site Server is not really an option. Just looking for ideas if I am not going in the right direction with this.

    Hi All,

I am upgrading Altiris CMS 7.1 to 7.5 SP1 and getting the following error while upgrade

    “A Critical Error Occurred

Server didn’t recognise the value of HTTP header SOAPAction:

    Configuration failed while attempting preconfiguring”

    Please Help

    We are on 7.5 SP1

We now have some older packages that have been updated with newer versions a few times etc, and we are wanting to make sure we can clean out some of our legacy packages and policies.  We have disabled the policies but eventually things may get cluttered and confusing with just a version number difference.

If I go and delete the packages, policies, and software releases etc will they clean up off the package servers as well?

Just wanting to make sure I do this the most efficient way so that all the references are gone and don't start causing errors in my logs.

I need to run a script on a "couple" of computers. The problem is that these computers don't have the altiris agent running correctly.

I'd like to, instead of assigning a script task to a filter and have each of the computers in the filter run the task, have the NS run the script once for each of the computers in the filter, using the target computername as a variable.

Sounds simple enough for me, but I cant figure it out...

I tried creating a "run script on Server" task and then create a token from the appropriate query, but then I can't use it for anything useful (because it has multiple lines)

The script Im trying to run is very simple (deletes files from %tempfolder% and other space hogs, psexec to restart altiris agent)

    Any ideas?
