    I am completely at a loss. We have ITMS 7.5 HF4 installed and have IT Analytics installed and working fine for software and assets. However, no matter what we try, we can't get the connection to work for IT Analytics for ServiceDesk. Here's what we've done/tried:

    We are using a SQL account with sysadmin privileges and can log in to the SQL server. It also has dbo privs on the ProcessManager database.

    The database server is running both ProcessManager and the CMDB so all interaction is internal to itself

    The SQL server is running SQL 2012 on a Server 2008 R2 box

    We are running IT Analytics for ITMS just fine

    The authentication for SQL server is set to mixed.

    We've tried both the DB server name and the SD server name (one article says one thing, another says the other).

    Every attempt sends back the same error: Error occured attempting adding Linked Server
    System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (.Net SqlClient Data Provider): User does not have permission to perform this action.

    We've tried running the connection from a workstation and from the SMP server just in case.


    We're at a complete loss so any information would be helpful.

    The following process all user interaction is via an IPAD


    We have a process that generates a PDF with a third party program outside of workflow, We then use workflow to pick it up on the other side and bring it back into the process.


    Once it is back in the process we can either email it out or print it. To print it we simple open a link and then the ipad  opens it in adobe reader allowing us to use airprint.


    Does anyone have a thought on how Workflow might be able to handle this as there are a lot of steps. Espically after you print it you have to go back to safari and then hit back to complete the process.

    We are currently using the latest Servicedesk solution from ALTIRIS (boss thinks its 7.5 may be higher..). My team had a discussion about the ability to paste screen-shots into the body of a comment.  What we tried is Snipit --> copy--> Paste into Comment.

    We have tried Design view in the comments, and when we save it sometimes ends up with what looks like a broken image symbol. But all white.

    We also tried HTML and end up with the same thing or just blank. The Other Thing, is when the ticket is generated we receive the auto generated emails and "sometimes" we get an image in the incident emails but "most" of the time we get the image cant be displayed or if its HTML nothing at all.


    I would really like to know what may be causing this erratic behavior. The ability to paste screen-shots directly into a comment, and have the recipients email show the updates and changes, is a very crucial part of enhancing our ability to close tickets and lower the amount of clicks to see critical information without having to fumble through creating screen shots, saving them as jpegs, and then having to save them again as attachments.The Outlook is set to download ALL images on the emails, so it cant be that. Is there a limit to size that a comment can contain, are most images to large to paste in the comment sections??? Any insight would be great.

    Is that feature possible? And what features are supported for Esxi servers?

    I'd like to see if someone has input with this before I open a case with Symantec Support about it. We are also transitioning from an older VNC application to pcAnywhere 12.6.8209, which is deployed as a plug-in to our SMP ITMS.

    When a pcAnywhere session is the active window and the Host is moving the mouse and the Host stops moving the mouse, the Remote mouse pointer will be where the Host stopped their mouse. At times the mouse will actually move at the same time.

    Has anyone heard of or seen this before? Thanks for any input that anyone has.

    I have a server 2008R2 server that had NS installed on it as a test, but then removed.  So for the most part the server is new


    I have since installed the altiris agent from our production environment on the server, working all fine and want to make the server a task server only.  No package, no DS, etc.  

    When It installs task server it adds the services it needs but will not create the website that is required for task.


    I have attempted an uninstall and reinstall of IIS to make it as clean as I can, but still no luck.  Any ideas or thoughts?  I can't seem to find a KB article that is exactly the issue I am having.

    I have two small questions/requests in Servicedesk 7.5.

    On Reassign Incident, we'd like to have "Clear existing assignments" always checked (or just hide it).

    On Set Ownership, we'd like to remove/hide the "Remove from Queue" option. I asked his in another thread, but received no answer (

    We do everything by queues, so both of these options either cause tickets to appear in multiple queues, or leave tickets in the middle of nowhere assigned to one technician. Is this possible? I don't see any workflows to change these, but maybe I'm just missing it somewhere.

    1. In my environment Currently Altiris Services  in Notification Servers   are running with  dedicated AD ID (which is mentioned under Application Identity) Credentials. If we change it to “ Local System Account “ will it work or is it required for running services?


    2. The  domain ID  which is  mentioned in  Application identity has the Domain Admin Rights .What  will be the impact if we remove Domain Admin Group membership for this ID and add same ID  in    “Local Administrator “  group in local systems  through  AD  Group Policy ?


    4.Are the  Domain Admin group membership required for  ID which is used for running Altiris Services ?


    My environment is mix like  Active Directory as well as Workgroup  computers .

    Single  NS , 1 DB , 3 Task servers and 60 PS.


    Please help.

    As per  Doc  "--License count exceeded—Inventory from licensed nodes will continue to be processed. Incoming inventory data from unlicensed nodes is discarded " ---

    here what is meant by unlicensed node  - system without  Inventory plug-in or  System with inventory  plug-in installed  after exceeding license count ?

    Does this mean if i have 100 licenses , i can install agents on more than 100 systems , inventory plugin also will be installed on more than 100 systems, but  Altiris NS will accept inventory of only first  100 systems , so how it will track   ? and how i will come to know which are those systems for which inventory not updated in DB even though  Inventory plugin is installed  ?

    if yes then how to get inventory for remaining 10 systems ?

    If i retire  any system for which inventory already received and install plugin into another system  will it show that retired systems data in reports ?

    If i delete any system for which inventory already received   will it show the deleted system in reports ? 

    Please help.

    Hello everyone

    I'm working in a few reports with IT Analytics on Altiris.The company i'm providing services is asking me for two reports:

    - All computers with hardware information installed and - All computers with software information installed

    The first report has been done properly, with good results, as expected

    The second report, is giving me a bit of a problem, because of the amount of data generated and that Excel is not able to complete the OLAP query when exporting data.


    The report I'm generating is having the following fields:

    Computer: name > Computer: Model > Software component: Company > Software Component: Name


    As you can see, I' have a lot of software info from one computer. Now, I imagine the size of these report as I have a pool of 1200 computers active on Altiris and counting.

    I know that there's lots of data, but isn't SMP itself being able to handle this type of reporting?

    What if a company has more than 2000 computers running inventory want a report of this size? Will it have a problem of this kind?

    Is there a way to export this big report without this concern? Or am i missing an optimize step for IT Analytics?

    Is RSA SecureID no longer an option for two-factor authentication in Windows 7? I can easily configure this with XP. But after installing the Window 7 and the correct RSA software for Windows 7 I no longer see RSA as a selectable authentication type.
