  • 03/26/14--05:24: Shared Guid issue (chan 3968102)
  • Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Ok I searched and read throug a few other topics here and got some good information.

A little bit of history with our use... We use Altiris to push software/patches/inventory, etc to a select 4k machines in our company of 36k machines. With that we have challenges where we cannot do an AD Import, cannot deploy agents via network discovery. We are currently going from Windows XP to Windows 7.

We image a new machine via USB or network (non DS - would love to but that is a seperate issue all together... )
During this process the machine is given a name, joined to the domain and at the end Altiris is installed.
We are starting to see more and more shared GUID's. While other posters have stated to read a few articles... this one stands out for us.
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

In there it states a few things:

at the bottom of the link it states...
This process will delete all previous data about each computer from the database; and this deletion is necessary to prevent data inconsistencies caused when the information about two different computers is merged. If historical data must be retained, then computer names should not be reused.
We cannot have this. We keep all hardware inventory and software delivery for machines so we cannot delete.

Scripts are provided to blacklist guids, delete those guids, etc.. but to that you also loose historical data...
I have those scripts and they work but not going to work for us as we do not want to loose the information.

so I guess what I am trying to do is figure out how to not have shared guids appear while also not doing an AD Import.

Any thoughts? I am going to talk to the guys and make sure they are building the computers off the bat with the correct name and not renaming in the future possibly causing the shared guid.

I have an automation policy setup to run the report and email it to me and I can see the list growing...

slightly cleaned up but you can see in the attached pic..

    hello all,

    2) Create image with GHOST without options advanced.

The computer (W7x64) starts correctly on the pxe and arrives until  the window symantec.
However, an error appear in the "Altiris Log Viewer" when the task "create image" starts.

The error is the next :

The Exception have occured in Client Imaging Task.
Exception has occured in File SMPPackage.cpp at Line No 222. Type of exception is GeneralError. Error is callDSPSInfoOperationService()have failed. Return XML is =. i read in others forums what the solution was to make le NetFramework 2 for IIS....  but this solution  doesn't function for me.

    Do you have ideas ?

    Thanks your advance,

    Jonathan

I recently had an issue where some clients weren't getting updates/software. When I checked the package server I noticed that about a dozen or so new packages were stuck at 'retrying download' - after restarting the agent it picked up again. Is there any way to get alerts on this or generate reports of package status rather than relying on users telling me?

Ok so we have been using Altiris 7.1 SP2 MP 1.1 with rollup v4 for some time now. Friday all was good and I went home. Mon/tues was at a work conference but today I came in and went to look at filters. When I click Manage> Filters I get an error and this is from my machine itself. a laptop running IE 8. I can run reports, get to settings and do whatever I wish. It is just the filters area. Not only the custom filters but ALL even canned ones. They just wont load.

I logged into the server and ran the page from there. All works just fine so it isnt something with the server but more of something changed on my machine. I work for a very large company (36k machines) and they use sccm to patch us.. not sure if something got done but curious if anyone knows of any IE settings that may have something to do with this??

I need to pull all of the documents from a process and send them in byte array format to an external web service for another product.   I'm able to pull the IncidentDocumentId value for the process in question and get the Document ID's for each document, however I'm not seeing anything that gives me the actual data for the file in question.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?   Also, I'm assuming the actual file data when outputed to a variable will be in byte array format?

I am hoping someone here can help as this is a somewhat urgent issue.

We went live with SD 7.5 last week. We built a custom workflow that sends our technicians an email when a ticket gets assigned to one of their queues. I have been getting complaints that our technicians were not getting some of their email notifications. My first thought was to look at the workflow. I found no problems there (neither did the consultant that helped us build it).

During our testing, we checked the tickets and saw that the ruleset OnTicketAssigned (which calls our workflow) had fired and operated successfully. However, when we checked the logging, the rulset never actually fired. I haven't been able to find a pattern, but it seems to randomly fire or not.

    Has anyone seen this before?

    Ghost Problem:

I am having problems finding the correct nic drivers for my Dells 3010.   I have downloaded the realtech drivers and added to boot disk.

When I use the boot disk, it fails to set ip address and cannot ping or communicate via the system.

Does anyone have a ghost bootable iso that would have these realtech drivers loaded correctly?

Appreciate a note if you do

I have 10 systems that will have identical configs and would like to create an image to restore from.

  • 03/27/14--12:30: Link in email direct to Incident (chan 3968102)
  • Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I'm fairly new to workflow (7.5). I'm having an issue that is most likely fairly simple, but I can't get past it with my simple mind. :)

I'm setting up a workflow that is going to send out an email based on comments being added. How do I add a clickable link that takes you directly to the incident from within the Send Email component in the workflow? It's easy enough to get the incident # listed. I tried using the HTML that I use in email templates from within ServiceDesk 7.5 Automation Rules.

    http://servername/ProcessManager/Reports/OpenProcess.aspx?ReportSessionID=${WorkflowTrackingId}

But that dosnt work.It just loads the main Process Viewer page. When fired from Automation Rules templates it takes you right to the ticket.

Thanks in advance if you can help!

  • 03/27/14--16:16: Symantec Ghost Client Required? (chan 3968102)
  • Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

    Hi,

I have been reading up on Ghost Solution Suite licensing and have a question that I can't find an answer to.  Is it a requirement that computers imaged by a Ghost server have the Ghost client installed?

I'm just curious.  I know that it makes it easier to keep track of licenses and is needed for management tasks, but is it required for licensing reasons?

    Thanks for your help.

  • 03/27/14--16:33: Need an filter for Tablets (chan 3968102)

    Hi

I have an filter for Laptops. It looks like this:

    SELECT DISTINCT

    ch._ResourceGuid

    FROM

    Inv_HW_Chassis ch

    WHERE

    ch.[Chassis Package Type] = '8'
    OR ch.[Chassis Package Type] = '9'
    OR ch.[Chassis Package Type] = '10'
    OR ch.[Chassis Package Type] = '12'

But now I have 2 diffrent kinds of tablet, MS Surface Pro and Dell Venue pro.

I need an diffrent filter for my tablets. I not sure if I need 1 for the Surface and then 1 for my Dell? Could this be any god in the future??

Do anyone know how the filter above should look for my tablets?

    Most greatfull for any help.

We started getting an issue in the SD.IncidentManagement workflow with session id not being passed properly to a Terminate and Transfer Dialog Flow component and it started throwing the error below. This is in the reclassify task just after the Save Done form when it goes through the Change Assignment path. The Terminate and Transfer Dialog Flow is set to go to the Reassign URL in the Initial Diagnosis Dialog Workflow. Users are using IE8 but if Chrome or IE11 is used this error doesn't happen.

Another thing is that this workflow is the same in our test and production environment but in our test environment it works with IE8 without issues. I've tried and IIS reset and restart of the Server Extensions but that didn't work. Has anyone experienced this issue before? This is for SD 7.1 SP1.
