    Hey Everyone,

    We are wondering what the best practice is for managing computer object security underneath ITMS.  The reason I ask is that at present, all of our desktops and servers are on the same NS, but there has been some discussions about migrating servers to a standalone NS.  We have not found a way to prevent non server admins from seeing objects that only server admins should see the way DS 6.9 used to.  Does anyone recommend this?

    Also, if a user is logged into the NS and has permissions to execute a task and tries to run it on a computer with an agent and the proper plugins installed, what prevents the user from accidently running it against the the wrong type of computer?  In other words, is there a way to prevent GROUP X from executing JOB Y on COMPUTER Z?

    We are looking to impliment the CEM for our environment.

    In reading through the prepare your environment steps I have some questions if anyone can answer them.

    First I have to install certs and set my NS servers to use https, this is not a problem

    The steps indicate to set "require SSL" as a step before it tells you to redirect.  I am thinking once I require SSL no clients will be able to commuinicate to get the update to redirect?  Is this correct?  If so it sounds more like I would install the cert but not require ssl until I am sure my clients switched over to using SSL.

    Then with site servers that I have to set as internet it states "Running a Task Server on a Cloud-enabled, Internet-managed client computer is not supported and can lead to undesirable behavior".  Does this mean that my site server that I choose can not have Task Server installed?  Its not really a client computer its a site server, or is it?

    I am investigating the possibility of importing existing open incidents in Remedy into ServiceDesk.  The Remedy db is hosted on an Oracle db and it looks feasible to read from this, create SD incidents and populate information from Remedy into them using workflow.  It is expected there will be somewhere between 2000 to 4000 open incidents to import so the exercise is well worth while.
     
    The challenge we have is the business would like us to retain the original start dates from the Remedy tickets.
     
    I've already asked Symantec support and they have confirmed they have no tools to help with the import and that workflow doesn't have any components that allow the definition of a start date/time when creating a process.
     
    I would think that most environments would like to import existing incidents from other helpdesk solutions and retain their existing date/times.  Has anyone else looked into this before?  Any solutions?

    Is there a way to use the command line to reset the altiris agent? 

     

    We are trying to point 100+ clients to a new task server. If we goto the agent and click reset it will pick the correct server. I have tried to restart the symantec management agent and restart the computer but it does not pick the new server.

    Hi everyone,

    I've installed KB2705233 to a number of machines but I can't find any evidence in Altiris of it being reported as installed.  The KB has been out there for a while and I have run manual software inventories but I'm not finding the KB listed in tables Inv_AddRemoveProgram or Inv_Installed_Windows_Software_Update.

    Is there another table I should be looking in?

    Tengo la siguiente inquietud, hace un año se compra la licencia Client Management Suite 7.1 pero en ese momento no se tenia la infraestructura para realizar la implementacion, en este momento ya se tiene la infraestructura pero la licencia ya esta vencida. Puedo realizar la implementacion y activar la plataforma?

    Con esa licencia puedo instalar la version 7.5

    A company XXX bought licenses CMS 7.1 and SMS 7.1 but for lack of resources (servers) can not be installed. After a year (14 months), purchase the servers and want implement the suites. What effect will the license if has been so long without using them ..?

    Can i install and activate these licenses without making a renewal ..?

    We use CMS version 7.5 and PCanywhere to connect to our clients.

    We haven't installed PCAnywhere's 12.6.7 HF1 because I need to think through who would be host only, etc.  Otherwise we're up to date.

    PCAnywhere connections through CMS have been pretty good for me for our clients, however some of our technicians really struggle seeing frequent disconnections or the screen freezes up, they see 'artifacts' on the screen and they have to use task manager to quit out of the app all together.

    The techs are in the same network VLAN as me.  Using the same model computer (desktop, no wifi).  

    I tried putting a ticket in with support and got no where.

    Anyone have suggestions?  Is there a list of ports PCanywhere uses somewhere?

    I've seen how to query AD to get a list of people using their managers Id (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/obtain-direct-reports-active-directory ).   I would like to get a list of people by department rather than by manager. 

    Is there a way to query AD by department name or any other value that doesn't required the Distinguished Name?

    I followed the instructions in http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... to move a package server from D to E. Let me start by saying this is a NS 7.1 environment. When I did this I thought everything went well, but for whatever reason IIS still pointed to D and not to E. So let me continue by asking is it better to let the console push out the Package and Task server agents or is a manual install on the server the best way to handle this? Finally the howto article I mention is that the one I should be using for this or is there another one with better detailed instructions. I am especially curious if you guys have thoughts on why IIS did not update. Should an IIS uninstall/reinstall been done? I would not think one should be necessary.

    My query is how to disable SMA & all the Plug-ins in ITMS 7.1 SP2 before migration.

    I have seen SMP but in that from settings TAB, we can disable the agents policies.

    But is it the correct way for doing it???
